For the week of August 2 - August 7, you'll find library staff breathing a huge sigh of relief and tallying the numbers for what we think is the most successful summer yet;  free ESL classes; and as usual, books for sale in the lobby and in the Friends' Bookstore.   Library staff are finalizing plans for fall programs and those will be announced soon.

Libraries are More Popular than Cupcakes!

There's a lot of buzz around the web about the next big thing:  libraries!  Long known for being secretly hip and cool, libraries are finally getting their just due.  Being smart and sharing your knowledge is the way to go.  Hats off to libraries and their staff, especially, of course, to the folks at 115 Norcross Street (the Roswell Library).  They rock!  Click here to read an NPR story about the ever-rising popularity of libraries.

The Gift that Keeps on Giving

Yesterday, the Roswell Library was the lucky recipient of a stack of children's books, DVDs and a CD. These were donated by a thoughtful mom who asks for donations to the library in lieu of birthday gifts for her kids. Isn't that nice?! And especially nice during these lean economic times. A tip o' the hat to this mom and her generosity!

The Proper Way to Fill Bookshelves

Well, if you're reading this, you probably don't have many empty bookshelves at home. However, if you do, or if you know someone who does, run - don't walk! - to the Friends' Bookstore at the Roswell Library. You can get enough books to fill those shelves without spending much money. Click here to read an article from the New York Times about decorating with books. The Friends' Bookstore is open Tuesday - Saturday from 11 - 3 and Sundays from 2 - 4.

This is the Last Week for Summer Reading Programs

This is the last week for our wonderful summer reading programs!  What a great summer we've had - record breaking numbers for all ages.  Have you seen the big picture window in the Children's Department?  It's covered with fish-shaped name tags representing all of the children who have read or listened to at least 10 books!

For children, the summer reading program ends this Saturday.  Please be sure to turn in the reading logs so your child can get credit for participating.  The Friends of the Roswell Library donated paperback books to this program for staff to give away as prizes.  The books were selected by Ginny Collier, head of the Children's Department (and an expert in children's literature).  Every child who read 10 books received a brand new free paperback book!

For teens and adults, the program ends this Sunday, August 1st.  Be sure to turn in your reading logs or book reviews so you'll be eligible for some exciting summer prizes (a Borders bookstore gift card for adults).  Thanks for making this year's summer reading programs the best ever!
