This Week @ the Roswell Library

Drop-in Needlecraft Groups at the Roswell Library

Do you knit?  Crochet?  Cross-stitch?  Embroider?  Join us as two new drop-in groups are planned each week from September through December (just in time for holiday gift-making).  Each session will last two hours.  No materials or instructions are provided, so be sure to bring all of your own tools and supplies.  All ages and experience levels are welcome.

Thursdays, September 1 - December 15
1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. in the library's Meeting Room, unless otherwise noted

Wednesdays, September 7 - December 14
6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.  in the library's Story Room

This Week @ the Roswell Library

Many thanks to the volunteers - and the shoppers - for making our August book sale so successful.   Many hours of hard work go into planning and setting up for the sale, as well as staffing it.   Hats off to our wonderful membership, library, and community for their support!

E-Books Class Has Been Rescheduled

The e-Books @ Your Library class originally scheduled for tonight, August 17 at 6:00 p.m. has been rescheduled for Wednesday, August 31 at 6:00 p.m.  We apologize for the inconvenience and hope you can join us on the 31st.

At the class, you will learn how to use Overdrive, the library's eBook provider and discover how to read books on your eReader, computer or Smartphone. Please bring your Smartphone or eReader with you to class, if available.

Reminder: Book Sale This Weekend!

Get ready to shop!  The Preview Sale for members (new members are welcome to join at the door) is this Friday, August 19, from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.  The regular book sale is Saturday, August 20, from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. in the library's meeting room.

Author Brittany Reid

Join us Saturday, August 27 at 10:30 a.m. when author Brittany Reid visits the Roswell Library.  Ms. Reid, a recent graduate of the University of West Georgia, will discuss the book she wrote and illustrated, Quack-A-Doodle-Doo:  Do It Like Dave.  This program is for ages 4 - 8.  No registration is required - come one, come all.  For more information, please call the library at 770-640-3075.

One Week Until the Mystery Readers' Book Club

Mystery fans have just one week until the next MRBC discussion.  This month's selection is Don't Tell a Soul by David Rosenfelt.  If you need a copy to read before next Tuesday, just call the Roswell Library at 770-640-3075 and staff will be happy to set aside a copy for you.  We'll see you next Tuesday, August 23, at 6:30 p.m.

READing Paws August 20

Saturday, August 20.  11:00 a.m., 11:15 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 11:45 a.m.
Beginning readers, grades 1 and up

The Reading Paws program visits the Roswell Library to help children practice their reading skills in a warm and friendly environment.  These trained and certified therapy dogs love stories!  Reading sessions are held in the Story Time Room in the Children's Department and last 15 minutes.  Beginning readers, grades 1 and up, are welcome.   Reservations are required and may be made in person or over the phone by calling the Roswell Library at 770-640-3075.

In Memoriam: Librarian Melzetta P. Laws

A tip o' the hat and a deep bow of respect to the late Melzetta Laws, former branch manager of the Dogwood Branch.  Mrs. Laws passed away last week.  Read her obituary at the AJC.  Her career spanned decades and she blazed trails and opened many doors for African American librarians in the metro Atlanta area.  Thank you, Mrs. Laws, for your dedication to the communities we all serve.

Summer Book Sale Coming Soon

Our summer book sale will be held in late August. The Preview Sale for members (new members are welcome to join at the door) will be Friday, August 19, from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. The regular book sale will be held Saturday, August 20, from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. in the library's meeting room. 

We'll have Christmas in August, children's books, classics, biographies, gardening books, mysteries, southern titles, romances, westerns, teen books, and more!
