Out of the Box Art Studio

The Civil War In Atlanta

Jumpstart's Read for the Record!

Join us for a very special program on Thursday, October 6 at 10:30 a.m.  We will read Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney and do a simple craft.   Ages 2-5.   No registration is required.  This program is part of Jumpstart's Read for the Record program.

READing Paws October 1

Morgan, a trained and certified therapy dog, loves stories.  She'll be at the library Saturday, October 1 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.  Beginning and reluctant readers are encouraged to sign up for a 15 minute time slot to read to her.  Grades 1 and up.  For more information, please call the Roswell Library at 770-640-3075.

Lessons from the War: African Americans and the Civil War

On Monday, October 3 at 6:00 p.m, join us for a special program presented by Mike Glenn, former NBA player, broadcaster, historian, and collector of rare artifacts and books as he discusses African Americans and the Civil War.   Ages 11 and up.   Reservations are required and may be made in person or over the phone by calling the Roswell Library at 770-640-3075.

Roswell Fine Arts Alliance

The Roswell Library is pleased to host an exhibit of paintings by members of the Roswell Fine Arts Alliance.  The paintings are on display throughout the library and feature the theme Roswell Places.  Spend a little extra time at the library during your next visit and enjoy these works of art.  The paintings will be on display through December, 2011.

Kindle owners rejoice!  Kindle books are now available through public libraries.  The NY Times featured an informative article on Thursday and quoted our esteemed Library Director, John F. This Week @ the Roswell Library

Now that fall is here, we are hoping for some cooler weather.   Surely it will come soon!   Until then, stop by the Roswell Library for a variety of fun activities for all ages.   For the week of September 26 - October 2, you'll find those ever-popular story times, the Drop-in Needlecraft groups (where folks seem to have a great time), Yoga and Zumba classes, ESL classes, a Lango Spanish story time, READing Paws, the Mystery Readers' Book Club reading The Leavenworth Case by Anna Katherine Green, a Chess Club for kids, and a special program about the Civil War in Atlanta presented by Georgia State University Professor Dr. Wendy Hamand Venet (presented as part of the Louisa May Alcott series).

Banned Books Week 2011

Have you ever heard of Mark Twain's book Eve's Diary?  Neither have a lot of other people.  One reason why is that is was banned in 1906 in Charlton, Massachusetts.  The ban was just lifted so another Twain tome is available for all to read.  Click here to read an article about the ban in the New York Times.

Mummy Wrap

Louisa May Alcott Writing and Costume Contest
Award Ceremony, Saturday, November 5. 1:00 p.m.
Three contests open to Grades 3-4; Grades 5-6; and Grades 7-8. Prizes will be awarded for the top three entries in each group. Write about American history or literature from the period 1840-1870. Entries should be 3-5 pages, typed or hand written. Entries accept­ed September 10-October 15 in the Children’s Department at any Atlanta-Fulton Public Library Branch. This event will be held in con­junction with the judging of a costume contest open to ages 7-13.

Chess Club for Adults

The Roswell Library is sponsoring a Chess Club for adults this fall.  You may bring your own chess set or use one of the library's.  No instruction is provided and registration is not required.   Just be prepared to play the sport of kings and have a great time!  Sessions will last two hours.

This Week @ the Roswell Library
