READing PAWS on June 4th!

The Reading Paws program visits the Roswell Library to help children practice their reading skills in a warm and friendly environment.  These trained and certified therapy dogs love stories!  Reading sessions are held in the Story Time Room in the Children's Department and last 15 minutes. Beginning readers, grades 1 and up, are welcome.  Reservations are required.

There are two slots available on Saturday, June 4:  11:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m.   Please call the Roswell Library at 770-640-3075 if you'd like to make a reservation.

My Reptile Guys

This Week @ the Roswell Library

Wondering what to do this week?  For the week of May 30 - June 4, you'll find a Summer Reading Program Kick-Off for children of all ages;  a High School Summer Book Speed Date where teens learn about all kinds of great books to read;  READing Paws for beginning readers in grades 1 and up;  and there are always free ESL classes, as well as books for sale in the lobby and the Friends' Bookstore.

Summer Story Times

Roswell's popular children's story time programs will resume the week of June 6.   A complete list is below.   No reservations are required for the story times (yippee!).

Bouncing Babies Story Time
Mondays, June 6 – July 25.  10:30 a.m.
Bouncing Babies is a program for infants from birth to age one and their caregiver.   There will not be a program on July 4.

Walking One-ders Story Time
Wednesdays, June 8 – July 27.  10:30 a.m.
Walking One-ders is a program for one year olds who are walking and their caregiver.  There will not be a program on July 6.

Terrific Twos and Threes Story Time
Wednesdays, June 8 – July 27.  11:30 a.m.
Terrific Twos is a program for two and three-year-olds and a caregiver.  There will not be a program on July 6.

Shake It Up! Drama Workshop

Seeing the future might be impossible, but watching events unfold billions of years ago is a snap - just look it up!  A hands-on exploration of our universe, gravity, black holes, and space travel.  Registration is required and spaces are limited.  Ages 11 - 14.

Be Not Too Tame: How To Give a Great Audition
Monday, July 11.  5:00 p.m.
Introduces teens to the process of auditioning for a Shakespearean production.  Participants learn how to work with cold readings from a script, take direction, and self-presentation.  Registration is required and spaces are limited.  Ages 11 - 17.

Improvised Survival: Getting From Nowhere to ... Somewhere!
Thursday, July 28.  1:00 p.m.
If you were stranded, could you find food, purify water, build a fire, navigate your way out, and work with your teammates along the way?  This hands-on workshop is loaded with tips and more.  Registration is required and spaces are limited.  Ages 11 - 14.

Summer Reading Kick-Off for Kids


Wednesday, June 1. 10:00 a.m.   Our Summer Reading Program kicks off with a visit from the Roswell Fire Department at 10:00.  At 10:30 come inside to sign up for the reading program.  Mr. Greggy and Abbie Cadabra will be making balloon animals for everyone.  No reservations are required.   All ages.

Summer Programs For Children Are Now Listed Online!

Get your calendars ready!  A complete listing of summer children's programs is now on our website:  Summer 2011.   Copies of our summer brochure are also available in the Children's Department at the Roswell Library.   The Friends of the Roswell Library proudly sponsor many of these programs.  Because of popular demand, reservations are required for many of the programs and registration dates are listed under each event.

Upcoming Author Appearances

Some of our favorite authors will be making appearances around town soon.  Patricia Sprinkle will be at Duluth's Barefoot in the Park Festival this weekend.  Karen White will be at Bookmiser in Roswell on June 7.  And don't forget, Renea Winchester will be at the Roswell Library Saturday, June 18 at 2:00 p.m., discussing her delightful book,  In the Garden with Billy: Lessons About Life, Love & Tomatoes.
