Special Roswell Reads Programs

There are less than two weeks to go before the last Roswell Reads program, a Literary Luncheon with author Tom Franklin at the Roswell Adult Recreation Center on Grimes Bridge Road.   Ticket sales are going strong and we look forward to an exciting lunch with Mr. Franklin as he discusses his novel Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter.  Before the big finale, there are three exciting programs, sure to whet your appetite (no pun intended ... well, maybe).

One Week Until the Mystery Readers' Book Club

There's just one week until the next Mystery Readers' Book Club discussion. The February 28 selection is Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter by Tom Franklin. This selection is in conjunction with Roswell Reads. We look forward to seeing you on the 28th at 6:30 p.m.!

Roswell Reads, a community-wide reading program, is the shared experience that Roswell residents have when they come together as a community to read and discuss a common book. This community building event involves people in reading and talking about issues and ideas presented in a book they have all read. Black Stars in Orbit: Celebrating the Contributions of African Americans to Space Exploration

In celebration of ROSWELL ROOTS: A Festival of Black History and Culture the Roswell Library is pleased to present a very special program on Saturday, February 18 at 3:00 p.m.  Dr. Curtis M. Graves, retired Deputy Director for Civil Affairs at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) will discuss his thirty year career at NASA and the extraordinary achievements of African American astronauts and scientists to the exploration of space. This event will include a screening of the documentary produced by Dr. Graves, “Black Stars in Orbit:  African Americans and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration”.  Registration is required and may be made in person or over the phone by calling the Roswell Library at 770-640-3075.

Birthday Party for the Friends Bookstore

On Sunday, February 19 at 2:00 p.m., there will be a very special birthday party in the meeting room at the Roswell Library. 

The Friends Book Store at the Roswell Library is ten years old this year and we are having a party to celebrate.  Ten years ago Helen and Don Tefft, Janice Tedford, Shirley Graham and others worked with Roswell Branch Manager, Lu Conti, to get the book store up and running.  The first year the Friends made over $10,000 in the bookstore and now the store is making $40,000 annually selling used books to help support the library.

Thanks to all who have made this possible.  Please join us and help celebrate our success!

The Bookstore Turns 10

Happy birthday to the Friends Bookstore!  Before the bookstore opened ten years ago, great minds came together to carefully plan how to make this project work.    Helen and Don Tefft, Janice Tedford, Shirley Graham and others worked with Roswell Branch Manager, Lu Conti, to get the bookstore up and running.   The cooperation between library staff and Friends over the years has been a model of how to work together for success.  Help us celebrate by stopping by the Roswell Library on Sunday, February 19 at 2:00 p.m.
