Sad news to report today: author and poet Lucille Clifton passed away Saturday, 13 February. She was 73 years old and had recently been in the hospital. Formerly the Poet Laureate of Maryland - and the first African American woman to do so, a National Book Award winner and a recipient of prestigious Ruth Lilly Prize for lifetime achievement by the Poetry Foundation, Ms. Clifton wrote a wonderful series of children's book about Everett Anderson. Her poetry and literature will be greatly missed.
