Louisa May Alcott Series of Programs

The Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System is sponsoring a variety of programs about Louisa May Alcott and the screening of the documentary Louisa May Alcott:  The Woman Behind Little Women at the Central Library.   For a complete list of programs, visit the A-FPLS News page or see the list below.   The Roswell Library will host two discussions, one about the Civil War in Atlanta and one about the book Louisa May Alcott:  The Woman Behind Little Women by Harriet Reisen.   For more information, please call the library at 770-640-3075.

Wednesday, September 14. 1:30 p.m.
Join us for a screening of the documentary film. Following the film there will be an open discussion led by Dr. Robert Sattelmeyer. A short reception for attendees will be held following the discussion.

Discussion of Louisa May Alcott: The Woman Behind Little Women

This program will be part of a series readings and discussions led by Dr. Robert Sattelmeyer. Subjects will include Ms. Alcott’s writings, her experiences as a Civil War nurse, social reformer and relationships with other Concord Transcendentalists including Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau and Nathaniel Hawthorne.

Louisa May Alcott Writing and Costume Contest
Award Ceremony, Saturday, November 5. 1:00 p.m.
Three contests open to Grades 3-4; Grades 5-6; and Grades 7-8. Prizes will be awarded for the top three entries in each group. Write about American history or literature from the period 1840-1870. Entries should be 3-5 pages, typed or hand written. Entries accept­ed September 10-October 15 in the Children’s Department at any Atlanta-Fulton Public Library Branch. This event will be held in con­junction with the judging of a costume contest open to ages 7-13.
